Deaf Mum Talking
48Portrait of family life
Woke up early this morning. It wasn’t planned. Maybe the sun shining through the curtains was too much of a change from the last few weeks . Anyway as most mornings, I went downstairs to let the dogs out and put the kettle on.
Taking a cup of coffee up to hubby I unwittingly gave my eldest son time to get in position and ready to repeat the success of last night where he managed to frighten the hell out of me by jumping out from behind the kitchen counter and shooting me with his rifle. However unlucky for him I saw his shadow this time and his attempt was utterly foiled. Ha!
When I first started to go deaf it was a lot easier to make me shout with fright; they simply had to walk up to me and tap me. Not having heard any footsteps I used to jump out of my skin!
Even my husband thought it was funny and had his own trick of appearing by my side unexpectedly.
But I am wiser now and, well, I’ve got used to it and they just have to try harder.
